Chakra Balancing Exercise For Belly Dancers

Whenever you feel you have an imbalance in your body or an inflexibilty in a certain body part, going through the chakra balancing exercise will give you immediate relief. You will free your body from energy blockages and notice a beneficial effect in your whole organism.

The exercise is best performed lying down on the floor or sitting with your back straight in either the lotus position or cross-legged. Close your eyes, breathe deeply and relax.

  • Contract your root center
    Exhale and try to pull in your abdomen in the lower pelvis area and hold the contraction for a few seconds. Do this in three steps:
    • First put pressure on the muscles around your anus and pull it inward.
    • Then contract your genitals as much as possible.
    • Pull in your abdomen in the navel area, toward the spinal column.

    Relax all your muscles for a few moments and repeat this exercise twice. Pause for a while and concentrate on your breath.

  • Contract your diaphragm
    Exhale and pull in your diaphragm so that it is lifted up into your chest. Try to hold the contraction for a few seconds.


    Relax all your muscles for a few moments and repeat this exercise twice. Pause for a while and concentrate on your breath.

  • Contract your neck
    Breathe in through your nose and pull down your neck and chin toward your body while pulling up the shoulders. Hold that contraction for a few seconds.

    Relax all your muscles for a few moments and repeat this exercise twice. Pause and concentrate on your breath again.

If you can, try to go through the chakra balancing exercise twice a day – favorably in the morning and in the evening. Doing that should keep you in a state of constant well-being.

The chakra balancing exercise can also be very helpful for you before a belly dance performance as it will influence your strength and confidence. You will find that your performance is perceived much more passionate and energetic by your audience.
